The UN has not yet managed to legalize drugs for personal use

The initiative of United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime withdrawn at the request of at least one of the member countries. Structure of the United Nations failed to convince the government of the world to eliminate the storage and use of drugs from the list of criminal offenses. Such treatment was United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). However, the structure has been forced to withdraw it at the request of at least one of the countries-members of the organization, said on Tuesday Russian service of "Bi-bi-si."

The document, prepared by UNODC, called for the legalization of all drugs for personal use as "imprisonment for their use and storage is too harsh a punishment."

The document, drawn up on the official letterhead of UNODC, said: "When the use of drugs for non-medical purposes, and storing them for private purposes is treated as a crime, it only leads to negative consequences in the field of public safety and human rights."

"Minor violations related to the sale of drugs for personal use, to be equated with minor crimes. Fall under this definition should be able to get social support, the ability to pass a rehabilitation course and not be punished again in criminal proceedings", - stated in it.

Handling, as noted, was preparing for a conference in Kuala Lumpur in November, the head of the department of UNODC to combat HIV Monica Beg. An unnamed source at the Office at the same time said, "Bi-bi-si", that this document was never accepted officially.

What will happen to the paper in the future is unclear. Sources at the UN Office on Drugs reported that, in any case, before the document can get official support, it must pass on a large number of consultations.
